R
iverside County really has been a
hotbed of activity recently in terms
of developing stronger ties with
cities and countries that represent
business opportunities for area
businesses and manufacturers.
With The Board of Supervisors support
the Riverside County Office of Foreign
Trade has taken the lead and worked
with several of our city, business and
other partners to coordinate these
events to give local business owners
an opportunity to see firsthand how
many opportunities to do business exist
outside our own country’s borders.
We will detail those efforts within the
pages of this month’s EXPORT Magazine
and also shine a light on a company
that is experiencing great success in
exporting its products around the
world. Edelbrock, with two foundries in
San Jacinto, is producing high-quality
aluminum products for use on high-
performance vehicles around the world.
Our most recent event brought more
than 40 businesses, government and
military leaders from India to the
County Administrative Center. The
gathering was an opportunity for
representatives of Riverside County
and India to get to know each other
better and to further discuss ways
both geographic areas can prosper
from future economic development.
Make no mistake – India is one of the
great frontiers for Riverside County
business owners and manufacturers.
One of the most populous areas in the
world, India also is experiencing an
economic growth spurt, as average
incomes have increased and attracted
the attention of major American
retailers like Wal-Mart and Starbucks.
Your Board of Supervisors also made
quite an impression on a contingent
of dignitaries from Vancouver, British
Columbia. As readers of this magazine
know quite well, Riverside County enjoys
a great relationship with Canada and
its people – Canada is our #1 trading
partner and Riverside County is home
to 130 Canadian-owned businesses.
But we want to expand that relationship
even further, and there is great promise
in talks we have been having about
setting up a program that would allow
unemployed construction workers from
Riverside County to migrate to Canada
temporarily to help the Canadians
solve a problem they have in terms
of having enough skilled labor to
complete projects underway there.
That about sums it up for this month.
Please enjoy this issue and let us
know what you would like to see in
our pages in the coming months.
With warmest regards,
